Push Notification Templates

Customize the predefined push notification templates used by InstiKit for in-app and mobile push notifications.

General 3 min read

The Push Notification Templates module allows you to customize the push notifications sent by InstiKit.

Push notifications are short messages that notify users about important events. Depending on your notification configuration, they are displayed:

  • In the application's notification menu (header notification icon).
  • As mobile push notifications on Android and iOS devices.

Instead of modifying application code, administrators can customize the notification title and message directly from the administration panel.

InstiKit Push Notification Template

Important

Push notification templates are used only when Push Notifications are enabled under Notification Configuration.

Available Templates

InstiKit includes predefined push notification templates for many commonly used system events.

Examples include:

  • Announcement Published
  • Assignment Published
  • Complaint Assigned
  • Complaint Raised
  • Complaint Status Changed
  • Leave Requests
  • Enquiry Notifications
  • Attendance Notifications
  • Fee Notifications
  • Examination Notifications

The available templates may increase as new features are added to InstiKit.

Editing a Template

Each push notification template contains two editable fields.

Title

The title is displayed as the heading of the notification.

Keep it short and meaningful so users can quickly understand what the notification is about.

Example:

Fee Payment Confirmed

Message

The message contains the notification body shown to the user.

Since push notifications have limited space, messages should be concise while still providing useful information.

Example:

Your fee payment of ₹2,500 has been received successfully.

Template Variables

Push notification templates support dynamic variables that are automatically replaced when the notification is generated.

For example:

##NAME##

may become:

John Smith

Similarly,

##TITLE##

may become:

Science Assignment

The list of supported variables depends on the selected template.

Note

Only use the variables listed for that particular template.

Unsupported variables will not be replaced.

Enabling or Disabling Templates

Each push notification template can be individually enabled or disabled.

By default, all templates are enabled.

If a template is disabled, InstiKit will not generate push notifications for that event, even if Push Notifications are enabled globally.

This allows you to disable notifications that are not relevant to your organization while continuing to use others.

Custom Push Notification Templates

InstiKit includes predefined templates for commonly used events.

If you need to send push notifications for an event that does not already have a predefined template, it will require a customization.

Examples include:

  • Custom admission workflows
  • Organization-specific approval processes
  • Third-party module events
  • Custom reports
  • Any other workflow not currently supported

Please contact the InstiKit support team if you require additional push notification templates.

Best Practices

When editing push notification templates:

  • Keep titles short.
  • Keep messages concise.
  • Do not remove required variables.
  • Highlight the most important information first.
  • Avoid long paragraphs.
  • Test notifications before using them in production.

Important Notes

  • Updating a template affects all future push notifications for that event.
  • Previously delivered notifications are not modified.
  • Changes take effect immediately after saving.
  • Templates can be reset to their default content if required.

Saving Changes

After editing a template, click Update to save your changes.

If your organization uses the InstiKit mobile application, we recommend sending a test notification after making significant changes to verify that the title, message, and variables appear correctly on supported devices.
