Logout

Securely sign out of your InstiKit account.

User Guide Profile Menu 3 min read

The Logout option safely ends your current session and signs you out of InstiKit.

Logging out is recommended whenever you finish using the application, especially on shared or public computers.

How to Logout

  1. Click your Profile Avatar in the top-right corner.
  2. Select Logout.
  3. If logout confirmation is enabled, enter your password.
  4. Confirm the logout.

After logging out, you are redirected to the login page.

Logout Confirmation

InstiKit includes an optional permission called logout:confirm.

When this permission is assigned to a role or user, logging out requires the user to enter their current password before the session is terminated.

This provides an additional layer of security by preventing unauthorized users from logging out an active session.

Why Require Password Confirmation?

Although requiring a password to log out may seem unusual, it is useful in environments where a device is intended to remain permanently signed in.

For example:

  • QR Code Attendance kiosks
  • Face Recognition Attendance terminals
  • Reception desks
  • Library kiosks
  • Self-service information terminals

In these cases, the device is usually logged in using a dedicated account such as Attendance Assistant.

If anyone could log out without restriction, they could interrupt attendance operations and the authorized user would need to log in again.

By enabling logout:confirm, only someone who knows the account password can end the session.

Example Scenario

A tablet is installed at the school entrance for employees to mark attendance using QR codes or facial recognition.

The tablet is logged in with the Attendance Assistant account and remains active throughout the day.

If a student or visitor taps Logout, they would normally be able to sign the device out immediately.

With the logout:confirm permission enabled:

  • Selecting Logout displays a password confirmation screen.
  • Without the correct password, the logout is cancelled.
  • The attendance device remains operational.

This helps prevent accidental or unauthorized interruptions.

Best Practices

We recommend enabling logout:confirm for accounts used on shared or unattended devices, including:

  • Attendance Assistant
  • Reception Kiosk
  • Library Kiosk
  • Visitor Management Terminal
  • Face Recognition Device
  • QR Code Attendance Device

For personal computers used by administrators or staff, this permission is generally not necessary.
