Feature overview

Built for real school operations

What your teams can do with it day to day, and how it connects with the rest of InstiKit.

Follow the bus journey with useful trip information

When a bus is running late, parents want to know where it is and the school office needs information it can refer to. InstiKit's transport tracking gives authorised users a view of active trips and the locations reported during each journey.

The live view includes the latest location update time. Staff and parents can use it to understand how recent the displayed position is.

Start and complete trips for each route

An authorised staff member selects the route and starts the trip. For a round trip route, the journey is identified as arrival or departure. The trip is marked complete when the journey ends.

When browser tracking is enabled, a device travelling with the bus can send its location through the browser. The device needs location permission and an internet connection, and tracking must remain active for updates to continue.

Schools can also prepare a route by recording the travel path and marking stop locations. This keeps the planned route available alongside trip information.

Give parents access to their child's route

Parent access follows the student's route assignment. Parents can view trips for routes linked to their child, while transport staff use the access allowed by their role and route responsibilities.

For example, a parent waiting at a stop can check the latest reported bus position during an active trip. If updates stop arriving, the displayed position remains the last reported location rather than a confirmed current position.

Record pickup and drop attendance separately

Transport attendance has its own register. Staff select the route, date, and pickup or drop session, then mark passengers present or absent.

Separate sessions help record different travel arrangements on the same day. A child may take the bus to school but go home with a parent, so the pickup and drop records can differ.

Staff record this attendance directly. A bus location update does not automatically mark a student present.

Review attendance and trip history

Transport attendance detail and summary reports help the coordinator review recorded journeys. Tracking summaries show recorded trip durations by route and date, with arrival and departure information.

These records help staff answer practical questions about a particular day's transport activity. They also give the school a clearer record to refer to when following up on a missed journey or reviewing route operations.
