Welcome to InstiKit.
This guide helps you understand the overall layout of the application before you begin working with individual modules. Whether you are an administrator, teacher, accountant, librarian, or another staff member, every user works within the same interface.
Understanding the main areas of the application will help you navigate InstiKit more efficiently.
Application Layout

The interface is divided into several sections, each designed for a specific purpose.
1. Sidebar Menu
The Sidebar Menu provides access to all modules available to your account.
Examples include:
- Dashboard
- Student Management
- Employee Management
- Attendance
- Fees
- Examination
- Transport
- Library
- Inventory
- Reports
- Administration
The modules displayed depend on your assigned role and permissions. Users will only see the menus they are authorized to access.
2. Sidebar Toggle Button
The Sidebar Toggle Button allows you to collapse or expand the sidebar.
Collapsing the sidebar provides additional workspace, especially when working on smaller displays or viewing large reports.
3. Header Menu
The Header Menu contains quick access actions that are available throughout the application.
Depending on your configuration and permissions, this area may include:
- Notifications
- Messages
- Quick Links
- Home
- System Settings
- Recent Activity
These actions remain accessible regardless of the module you are currently using.
4. Current Period Switcher
The current Period shown in the header identifies the active academic year for your session.

Use this option whenever you need to switch from one academic year to another, such as moving from 2025-2026 to 2026-2027.
Changing the period updates the academic context across the application, including records, reports, and workflows that depend on the selected academic year.
5. Current School Switcher
The current School shown in the header identifies the active branch or campus you are working in.

Use this option to switch from one school branch to another when your account has access to multiple branches.
Changing the school updates the branch context across the application so you can work with the correct students, employees, settings, and records for that branch.
6. Profile Dropdown Menu
Click your profile avatar in the top-right corner to open the Profile Dropdown Menu.
This menu contains user-specific settings and shortcuts such as:
- Dark Mode
- Organization
- School
- Role & Permission
- Device
- QR Code Attendance
- My Profile
- Failed Login Attempt
- Clear Cache
- Download Format
- Logout
Each option is explained in its own documentation page.
Responsive Design
InstiKit is fully responsive and works across desktops, tablets, and mobile devices.
Depending on your screen size:
- The sidebar may collapse automatically.
- Menus may appear as icons instead of full labels.
- Some actions may move into overflow menus.
- Layout spacing adjusts automatically for smaller screens.
Role-Based Navigation
InstiKit uses a role and permission system.
This means different users may see different:
- Modules
- Menus
- Buttons
- Reports
- Actions
For example:
- A Teacher can access attendance, timetable, assignments, and examinations.
- An Accountant can access fee collection and finance modules.
- A Librarian can access library management.
- A Parent only sees information related to their children.
This ensures users only access information relevant to their responsibilities.
